Effect of organic solvents on the conductivity of polyethylene glycol-based deep eutectic solvents

2021
Abstract Conductivity of biocompatible polyethylene glycol (PEG)-based deep eutectic solvents (DESs) is one of the key physical properties for the application of DESs. However, the effect of organic solvents on the conductivity of PEG-based DESs is not investigated to the best of our knowledge. Here, several common organic solvents are selected as the representative solvents. The presence of organic solvents in PEG-based DESs could change the conductivity depending on the concentration. Too low and too high concentration would lead to a low conductivity, while the moderate concentration would lead to a maximal concentration in the whole concentration range. Furthermore, the effect of solvents on the molar conductivity is also derived, which is different from the conclusion of conductivity. This work would provide novel methods for tuning the conductivity of PEG-based DESs for more widespread industrial application.
