Effect of Organic and Inorganic Sources of Nitrogen on Summer Greengram [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek] under North Gujarat Conditions

2014
A field experiment was conducted during summer season of 2013 at Sardarkrushinagar, Gujarat to find out most efficient and economic combination of different organic and inorganic sources of nitrogen to increase the productivity and profitability of greengram [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek] without deteriorating the soil qualities. The results showed that conjunctive application of recommended dose of nitrogen (20 kg N/ha) through organic and inorganic sources of nitrogen like, 25% RDN from FYM +75% RDN from urea significantly enhanced plant growth and growth attributes. Combined application of RDN as 25% RDN from FYM +75% RDN from urea recorded higher values for number of pods per plant (37.3), number of seeds per pod (10 seed/pod), 1000-seeds weight (40.8 g), seed yield (1632 kg/ha), stover yield (4375 kg/ha) and grain protein content (22.3%) over other combination and sole application of organic and inorganic sources of nitrogen. Application of 25% RDN either from FYM or castor cake with 75% RDN from urea gave 14.65, 6.47 per cent higher net return over 100% RDN from urea, respectively.
