Figure 1 A university air squadron cadet with a private pilot's licence, Frank did national service with the Royal Air Force in Egypt. He did geriatric training in Dundee and then settled in Aberdeen, firstly in a post covering general medicine, physical medicine, and rheumatology. Thereafter, he returned to geriatrics with a senior lectureship and then a consultant post with Grampian Health Board. After 20 years Frank moved to a similar post in west Dorset. A decade later he took early retirement, having developed hyperthyroid heart disease with congestive heart failure. Predeceased by his wife, Kathleen, he leaves three children and six grandchildren.
