Investigation of Effect of Charcoal Particle Size on Earth’s Resistance

2018
Earthing is vital to achieve equipment as well as personnel protection. Moreover, the stability of any electrical or electronic system is greatly affected by the condition of earthing. The paper includes investigation of effect of charcoal size on earth resistance. Earth resistance value depends on many factors such as electrode, back fill and soil in which earthing is done. Each of these parameters has sub-parameters on which earthing depends. Due to some unsuitable soil conditions at the site of earthing, meeting the requirement of the earth resistance according to the application becomes difficult. To overcome this problem, backfill materials such as charcoal salt mixture is used to acquire the required value of the earth resistance. The value of earth resistance depends on the size of charcoal. This paper presents mathematical modeling involving variation of the earth resistance with the change in the size of charcoal used as a backfilling material in the process of earthing.
