Bimetallic silver and copper nanoparticles synthesis, characterization and biological evaluation using aqueous leaf extracts of Majorana hortensis

Abstract The present work reports the synthesis of bimetallic Ag and Cu nanoparticles using aqueous extract of the leaf of Majorana hortensis plant. The resulting single pot green synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by analytical and spectral techniques. The analysis of elemental composition by EDAX revealed the presence of silver and copper elements in the sample. Transmission electron microscopy images visibly envisaged the formation of spherical nanoparticles with an average size of 10 nm. The formation of the nanoparticles was further manifested through FTIR, UV–visible, and XRD spectral data. The antibacterial activities of the nanoparticles were divulged against some human pathogenic bacteria. It was found that these nanoparticles can inhibit the bacterial growth and hence can be used as antibacterial agents.
