Bronchial asthma and pulmonary tuberculosis as a comorbid diseases

2020
The aim of our study was to determine the incidence of bronchial asthma in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis and the impact of asthma on the results of TB patients9 treatment. Materials and Methods: Materials of case histories of 2053 patients aged 20 to 60 years with newly diagnosed TB were analyzed. The analysis showed that asthma was diagnosed in 110 (5.4%) cases of active TB, and its frequency by years ranged from 2.8-7.3%. By severity of asthma, patients were as follows: intermittent asthma occurred in 27 (24.5%) patients, persistent mild - in 36 (32.7%) patients, persistent moderate - in 28 (25.5%), persistent severe - in 19 (17.3%) people. Therefore, the high proportion of TB patients (42.8% of cases) of persistent moderate and severe asthma is noteworthy. Such a sufficiently high incidence of asthma with TB was not accidental and fully met the comorbidity criteria for the two diseases. It was found that the destruction cavities were more frequent (7%) in patients with the presence of asthma. However, among patients with astma with and without exacerbation, the proportion of persons with bacterial excretion was approximately the same (51.2% versus 48.8% of cases, p After 3 months of TB treatment in patients without exacerbations of asthma healing of destruction cavities was observed in (44,6 + 6,7)% of persons against (25,3 + 3,8)% examined with exacerbations of asthma (p Exacerbation of asthma in patients with TB significantly slows down the termination of bacterial excretion and healing of the cavity of destruction in the lungs.
