On the photo-disintegration of Li6

The cross section and neutron yield function for the Li/sup 6/( gamma ,tn) reaction were measured. Broad resonances in the cross section at about 11.5 and 26 Mev were noted. Photodisintegration processes are discussed, and a model to explain the 26-Mev peak is proposed. In the model Li/sup 6/ would split virtually into an alpha particle, and a deuteron, all other intermediate state giving negligible contributions to the disintegration cross section. Interaction of the incident gamma ray with the alpha particle would contribute most to the cross section in this region. (D.C.W.)
