Studying the effectiveness rate of peer group residential treatment centers efficiency in preventing drug addiction relapse in Ahwaz

Present research aims at studying the effectiveness rate of peer group residential treatment centers efficiency in preventing drug addiction relapse in Ahwaz. This is longitudinal – descriptive survey. Its population consists of all peer group residential treatment centers in Ahwaz of which 6 centers were selected randomly. To gather data, the author went to selected peer group residential treatment centers distributed demographic questionnaire as well as exclusive questionnaire that its nominal validity was confirmed by psychologists and experts. Then the rate of relapse was evaluated in 6 – month and 1 – year periods. Extracted data was analyzed by chi-square test by SPSS16 software package. The findings indicate that 38% of sample subjects were clean, 49.6% were relapsed and 12.4% were unknown after a one – year follow up. Likewise, the relationship between relapse rate and research variables was insignificant statistically. Since drug addiction is a multidimensional and chronic disorder, several should be considered as its generating factors. Concerning high relapse rate, peer group residential treatment centers are recommended to prevent it by organizing group therapy and family therapy courses.
