Study of Relationship of Kidney Stone with Drinking Water Quality of People in Eastern Taiwan

Water is an indispensable resource to sustain life, and about 82 percent of our blood is water, while the human Systemic circulation supply the blood to all parts of the body, it can be said that water play an important role in maintaining human life. The purpose of this study is to research the influence of water quality in promotion of kidney stone formation. We compared Taipei city, the capital of Taiwan with the three counties of Yilan, Hualien, and Taitung are located in the eastern part of Taiwan, which was developed later than other areas of the island, famous for the best water quality in Taiwan. The study was conducted on a total of 200 local residents from each region (including medical consult patients and health examination volunteer). Abdominal x-rays and sonography may be used to diagnose kidney stones in this study. The results showed that three counties of Yilan, Hualien, and Taitung at eastern part of Taiwan with best water, has no significantly lower portion of local residents who suffer from kidney stone. This research also reconfirms the proportion of men to women in suffering from stones and statistical data provide for public reference.
