Atiyah sequences, connections and characteristic forms for principal bundles over groupoids and stacks

Abstract We construct connections and characteristic forms for principal bundles over groupoids and stacks in the differentiable, holomorphic and algebraic category using Atiyah exact sequences associated with transversal tangential distributions.
