A Dynamic Output Power System Stabiliser

1995
A novel approach to the design of an optimal dynamic output feedlback power system stabiliser is presented. The design method is systematic, simple and easy to implement. It is based on the principles of dynamic output feedback control theory, and the concept of combined controllability and observability measure. All the parameters of the stabiliser can be tuned simultaneously in an optimal manner. The stabiliser may use any signal for which the system is observable. A numerical example involving a power system represented by a single machine connected to an infinite bus is considered. It is shown, through computer simulation, that dynamic performance o f the power system can be significantly improved by a stabiliser designed by the method proposed in this paper.
