Investigation and analysis on medication knowledge,belief and behavior in elderly patients with coronary heart disease

Objective This study aimed to investigate the status and influential factors of medication knowledge,belief and behavior in elderly patients with coronary heart disease(CHD) in out-patient department,in order to provide reference for medication education.Method 4 cadre sanitariums were sampled by cluster sampling method.124 subjects were investigated about their medication knowledge,belief and behavior using the self-designed questionnaire.Results 74.2% of the elderly patients with CHD were lack of the medication knowledge.The influential factors included the frequency of hospitalization for CHD,the number of chronic diseases and job before retirement.More than half of the subjects showed poor compliance,which was related to the number of drug adverse reactions happened in the last year.The results showed that there was lack of consistency among their medication knowledge,belief and behavior.Conclusion In order to promote the formation of correct medication belief and behavior,the elderly patients need more systemic,persistent and renewal medication knowledge in the process of disease control of CHD.
