The Robotic Anterior Resection with Transanal Extraction (NICE Procedure) - a video vignette.

2020
A 69-year-old female presented with recurrent episodes of CT proven sigmoid diverticulitis. The patient had been admitted three times in the year prior to operative intervention to manage these episodes, with courses of antibiotics as an inpatient. Computed Tomography (CT) performed two months pre-operatively confirmed acute sigmoid diverticulitis with an elevated CRP of 74 at that time. A Natural orifice IntraCorporeal anastomosis with Extraction of specimen, or NICE procedure in the terminology of Eric Haas, was booked - a form of NOSES operation. This video vignette demonstrates a standardised robotic anterior resection with transanal extraction using the da Vinci Xi platform. It focuses on the standardised step-by-step approach to this technique for benign disease.
