Participación masculina en el proceso de nacimiento: una cuestión de género

2018
Justification: Excluding the male figure from the birth process has repercussions on the experiences of women and men. Objective: To explore the degree of incorporation of the man in the care process of pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium, and to know the impact of gender on the practices and speeches of health professionals who assist in the birth process. Methods: Qualitative, in-depth interviews were conducted with 13 men, 15 women and 11 health professionals. Results: The man who wishes to be included in the birth process faces many barriers due to the female exclusivity of the reproductive sphere. Conclusion: The masculine figure seeks to be incorporated and demands its position. Their presence is allowed, but they do not feel integrated, they exert a passive accompaniment. We affirm that keeping it apart reproduces inequali-ties, being the health professionals determining when to fix the degree of incorporation.
