Schwannoma of the Nasal Cavity

SCHWANNOMA, a tumor originating from the cells of the sheath of Schwann of peripheral nerves, is also called neurofibroma, neurilemmoma, and neurinoma. 1 Although Schwannoma has been extensively reported in almost all regions of the body, it occurs only rarely within the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. 2-5 The purpose of this paper is to present a case of nasal Schwannoma which simulated a malignant neoplasm. Report of a Case An 18-year-old girl had recurrent epistaxis from the left nasal passage of one year's duration. This usually occurred spontaneously or after blowing her nose. Anterior rhinoscopy revealed a necrotic, bloody, solitary mass in the left middle meatus. It extended over the anterior edge of the middle turbinate, and was in contact with, but not attached to the septum.
