Long-term subjective evaluation of oral appliance in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea and hypopnea syndrome

Objective To investigate the long-term subjective effect of oral appliance in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea and hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS). Methods The questionnaire was used to investigate the effect of treatment and the occurrence of side-effects. Results A total of 89 patients completed the questionnaire. Over 60% OSAHS patients treated with oral appliance everyday only. 12.4% patients had been using the appliance for 10 years. OSAHS could be treated successfully with oral appliance. In most cases, the side effects occured in patients, while 86% of the side effects were minor and temporary. Conclusions OSAHS could be treated successfully with oral appliance.
