Effect of SiC particles reinforcement on mechanical properties of aluminium 6061 alloy processed using stir casting route

Abstract Silicon carbide particle reinforced aluminium 6061 alloy metal matrix composites fabricated using stir casting route. Wt% of SiC particles varied from 0 to 4. Mechanical properties viz., hardness, tensile strength and compression strength of samples have been examined. The results revealed that hardness, tensile strength and compression strength of samples increased with increasing weight fraction of silicon carbide particles in aluminium 6061 alloy. Hardness, tensile strength and compression strength increased up to 25%, 25.6% and 12% respectively when compared to aluminium 6061 alloy.
