Design of switched quasi-logarithmic quantizer for Gaussian source with variable length codes

2017
This article studies quasi-logarithmic quantizer for speech signal with variable length codes (VLC). Switched quantizer leads to the achievement of better performances. In this way, variance range is split into quantizers and for each of them a separate quantizer is designed. Performances are computed depending on various input parameters and optimal ones are found according to two different criteria. Within the variance range, every quantizer has own model with a two-stage coder. Among VLC, here is chosen Golomb-Rice (GR) coding technique due to its simplicity.
