Expression and significance of bax and Ki-67 in thyroid tumors

Objective To investigate the expression of bax and Ki-67 protein in thyroid tumor and their relation with every index of clinical pathology.Method The expressions of bax and Ki-67 were analyzed by immunohistochemical and TdT-mediated dUTP-biotin nick end labeling(TUNEL) in the tissues from 56 cases of thyroid carcinoma,13 cases of thyroid benign tumour and 10 cases of normal thyroid gland.Result The positive expression rate of bax in normal thyroid,thyroid adenoma and thyroid carcinoma was 90.0%,61.54%,30.36% respectively.The positive expression rate of Ki-67 was 0,23.08%,69.64% respectively.The expression of bax in thyroid carcinoma was lower than that in normal thyroid and thyroid adenoma,while Ki-67 was higher(P0.05).Bax was related with pathologic types,stages and lymphaden metestasis.Ki-67 was related with pathologic types and lymphaden metastasis.Conclusion Bax and Ki-67 maybe related with the oncogenesis and development of thyroid tumor.Bax and Ki-67 might be a possible prognostic factor for thyroid cancer.
