Presentation of Case A sixty-one-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of progressive dizziness. She had had difficulty in walking for three months. She had first noticed unsteadiness while walking down a corridor, when she found it necessary to hold on to the wall, and thereafter experienced increasing unsteadiness on turning or descending stairs. She described "head spinning" on turning or getting up rapidly but stated that the environment did not move. When she lay back on the table during examination in a physician's office shortly before admission she had the feeling that she might fall off. Ten years . . .
