Comprehensive earthquake resistant measure of high earth-rockfill dams and effectiveness verification

A review of the advancement in study on failure mechanism and earthquake resistant measure of high earth-rockfill dams is presented.A comprehensive countermeasure including three techniques to strengthen the dam is proposed.The seismic responses of a high earth-rockfill dam analyzed by means of Fast Lagrangian Analysis Method show that the proposed measure can effectively reduce the vertical and horizontal permanent displacement near the top of the dam by 50%,if only horizontal earthquake is considered.In case both horizontal and vertical earthquake are taken into account the resistant measure still effective.
