Providers’ Opinion on Quality Improvement according to Hospital Accreditation Standards: Hospital Information System (ความเห็นของผู้ให้บริการต่อการพัฒนาคุณภาพตามเกณฑ์มาตรฐานโรงพยาบาลฉบับกาญจนาภิเษก : กรณีศึกษาระบบสารสนเทศ)

This qualitative study was aimed to explore problems about quality improvement and hospitalinformation system standards encountered by hospital under Hospital Accreditation (HA) program.Five provinces (Kanchanaburi, Khon Kaen, Phuket, Phitsanulok, and Rayong) were purposivelyselected for focus group discussions held at provincial health offices during August - October, 2004.Participants consisted of 1-2 staffers from provincial health office and 1-2 representatives from allhospitals in the province who were responsible for hospital information system or quality improvement.It was concluded that the committee responsible for information system in most hospitals wasnot equipped with full comprehension about its roles and responsibilities. They were hardly able tointerprete and transform the HA standards into practice. Moreover, utilization of available informationto benefit health services, administration, and quality improvement, overly specified by thestandards, showed limited prospects.Key words: quality improvement, information system, hospital accreditation standard, provider’s opinion
