[An epidemic of chancroid. 587 cases (author's transl)].

: Between 1973 and 1979, 673 cases of chancroid were diagnosed in the authors' Department at the hopital Saint-Louis, Paris. Therapeutic results could be assessed in 587 patients of whom 297 were treated with daily intramuscular injections of 1 g streptomycin sulphate and 290 with co-trimoxazole, 4 tablets per day. All patients were completely cured within 10 to 20 days, irrespective of the therapeutic regimen. Needle aspiration, repeated if necessary, of purulent lymph nodes is recommended, as it prevents surgical drainage which would delay healing.
