FT-ICR MS analytical study on the products of Shenhua coal using Ruthenium-Ion-Catalyzed oxidation method

In this study,the authors have conducted some preliminary investigation in the ruthenium ion catalyzed oxidation(RICO) on the Shenhua long flame coal,and for the first time,used high resolution electrospray Fourier mass spectrometer(ESI-FTMS) to characterize the oxidation products.The results show that the Shenhua coal contains alkyl side chains at a length of C2-C32 and alkyl bridge between aromatic rings at a length of C2-C27.The aromatic condensation level is relatively low(majority of conjugated structure of 2-4 benzene rings),and the average distance between aromatic rings is relatively large,with an overall loose structure.Abundant ether linked aromatic structure includes hydroxyl(—OH),carbonyl(-C-O),and methoxy(—OCH3).
