Solar Radio Diagnostic for Space Weather with the Trieste Solar Radio System 2.0

2020
Solar radio observations play an important role in the framework of Space Weather Science and Space Weather Operations. They represent a powerful diagnostic tool both for the investigation of the coronal plasma and for forecasting the direct impact of the radio noise on the quality and reliability of technological systems such as radio-based communications and services. To better understand the involved physical phenomena and the effects on technological infrastructures constant monitoring of the solar radio emissions is fundamental. In this paper we describe a new Italian instrument called Trieste Solar Radio System 2.0 (TSRS 2.0), fully dedicated to the solar radio surveillance and soon in operation under the management of INAF Astronomical Observatory of Trieste. Thanks to its peculiar and unique operational capabilities, the system will be an interesting diagnostic tool and will play a fundamental role in the Solar Radio Weather framework.
