Mollusc, benthic foraminifer and ostrocod faunas of the early Miocene deposits in DenizliRegion and biostratigraphic pre-results (SW Anatolia, Turkey)

2007
ents in Denizli and surrounding region are very rich in fossil assemblages. So far, these units including three molasse basins (“Cardak-Dazkiri”, “Denizli” and “Kale-Tavas”) have been dated as Eocene to Miocene. This study deals with examining of the Early Miocene aged units of the mentioned deposits and evaluating of pre-results obtained from their fossiliferous levels rich in mollusc, benthic foraminifer and ostracod fossils. In the studied region, the plaeontological findings belonging to Early Miocene have been found only the sediments outcropping in the south and southwestern part of the Denizli region, in other words, in the Kale-Tavas basin. The mentioned units corresponds to Yenidere and Kale formations. Total five stratigraphic sections have been logged from the fossiliferous levels of the formations. The attained pre-results point out that the Yenidere formation developed in Aquitanien whereas the Kale in Burdigalian age, which these datas support the previous age determinations given in the former studies.
