A Neurological Presentation of Neosporosis in Calves

2008
Neospora caninum is an important cause worldwide of abortion, stillbirth and calves born weak. Abortion is the major clinical sing associated to Neospora c aninum infection, it typically occurs between months four t o seven of gestation, but may occur from three months to term. Abortions tend to occur during m id-gestation and it appears that foetuses exposed in earl y gestation are more l ikely to abort and that f oetuses e xposed later a re more likely t o survive. A lthough most c alves b orn to infected cows w ill appear to be clinically normal, there may be some neurological d isease that i s n ot re adily apparent. However we present here an unusual presentation of the disease with recurrent neurological disease in the newborn c alves.
