Minimal Residual Disease in Acute Leukemias

The pace of disappearance of leukemic blasts in response to treatment has long being recognized as an important prognostic factor in Acute Leukemias. Recent technological advances enable detection of submicroscopic leukemic cells. The extent of reduction in the level of minimal residual disease in various phases of therapy can be exploited to improve risk classification and tailor therapy to improve patient outcome.
