Formation and creeping of the crystalline phase wavefront within the bed of vanadium sulfuric acid catalyst

As found for the SO2 oxidation process, on passing the reaction mixture through the vanadium catalyst bed a wavefront of an active crystalline phase of V(IV) compounds arises and creeps with time, causing a decrease in catalytic activity. A simple model of phase transformation is proposed, which is in good agreement with experimental data.
