Artificial Luminescence from the Coral Surface: Study of a SrAl2O4:Eu2+, Dy3+-Based Phosphor

2021
An artificial block of concrete and sand was made, coated with a SrAl2O4:Eu2+, Dy3+-based phosphor, and a new direction in the study and application of persistent phosphors was proposed. For the first time underwater luminescence on the coral surface was experimentally studied in real sea conditions. A bright, long-lasting blue-green afterglow was registered from a depth of 5 m. Fishes were attracted to the light of this artificial reef.
