Management of examination malpractice in the Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, Nigeria

This paper investigated management of examination malpractice in the Federal Polytechnic Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, Nigeria. It aimed to identify the various definitions of examination malpractices and highlight the causes of examination malpractices. Furthermore, it sought to examine the various dimensions of examination malpractices and found out the measures to prevent examination malpractice. The study was conducted in the Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi. The data were obtained by contents analysis from secondary source. Four focus group discussion sessions were also conducted into College of Environmental Studies, College of Engineering, College of Administration and College of Science and Technology. The findings revealed that students, academic and non-academic staff and the polytechnic authority were contributory factors in the incidence of examination malpractice. The study concluded that the number of examination malpractice cases from the four colleges of the polytechnic were insignificant but very dangerous because out of total students of 5,497, the cases of examination malpractice recorded for 2011/2012 first semester examination were 47 students which was 0.85%.
