Energy-related carbon dioxide emission reduction by means of dynamic electricity tariffs

2021
The reduction of energy-related carbon dioxide emissions and the integration of renewable energy resources are central objectives of German energy policy. This study discusses the extent to which private households and companies from the commercial sector can make an important contribution to achieve the defined goals with the help of market-linked electricity tariffs. The potential is determined for different target groups, which can reduce their own carbon footprint by shifting their consumption over time. Furthermore, the emission reduction potential is analysed by means of a simulation for different target groups according to different criteria, especially for the application of dynamic electricity tariffs.
