Clinical research on the treatment of EMG biofeedback response in abnormity motion style of the wrist and ankle joint resulted from central nervous system lesions

2004
Objective:To determine the muscle tension and abnormal motion of the wrist and ankle joint that resulted from central nervous system lesions by analyzing the muscle signal that provided by the EMG Neuroeductor Ⅲ. To observe its therapeutic effectiveness on the treatment of the abnormity motion style joint. Method:All of the 29 wrists and ankle joints with abnormal motion style had 1 course treatment which including 15 treatment sessions and 50 minutes for each session. Interventions: The data of surface EMG and muscle strength before and after treatment were obtained on the wrist extensor, wrist flexor, anterior tibialis and gastrocenemius. The improvement of the abnormity motion style of the joint was also obtained and analyzed.Result:The increase of EMG signal, muscle strength and the improvement of the joint motion after the treatment were significant(P0.01). Conclusion: The EMG biofeedback can accurately explore the muscle problem that caused the abnormity motion style of the joints, and the abnormity motion style of the wrist and ankle joints can be improved by this procedure.Author′s address Dept. of Functional Treatment, Xuanwu Hospital, The Capital University of Medicine Science, Beijing,100053
