General Oncologic Endosurgical Procedures

2021
Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) has become the standard procedure for various types of pediatric surgical procedures. No randomized controlled trials or controlled trials that evaluate MIS in the treatment of solid tumors in children have been published. Main limitations for the implementation of MIS in surgical oncology are the limited number of patients, the heterogenicty of tumor types, the wide variety of anatomical locations as well as the different clinical presentation and patient condition. Major indications are biopsy, tumor resection, surgery of metastases and supportive treatment including preservation of ovarian function. Pulmonary nodules surgery and ovarian preservation procedures are presented as examples since these are more prone to standardization. Specific organ MIS is presented elsewhere. Principles of oncologic surgery should be always respected in MIS.
