Value of color Doppler flow imaging and color Doppler energy in diagnosis of breast cancer

2006
Objective To assess the value of color Doppler flow imaging (CDFI) and color Doppler energy (CDE) in the diagnosis of breast cancer. Methods 145 breast masses were detected using CDFI and CDE, and confirmed by pathology. They were divided into two groups according their largest diameter, group Ⅰ (diameter2.0 cm) and group Ⅱ (diameter≤2.0 cm). The grayscale and flow features of the masses were observed and the parameters of pulse Doppler were analyzed. Results ① CDFI results: The flow signals of malignant lesions were richer than that of benign lesions. There was significant difference in SPV, PI and RI between benign and malignant lesions in group Ⅱ, but not in group Ⅰ. ② CDE results: The detection rate of malignant lesions were much higher than that of benign lesions. The majority benign lesions represented circuitous or dot-linear flow pattern which was named grade 0'-Ⅰ', otherwise appeared penetrative, tortuous, forked and netlike pattern, namely grade Ⅲ'-Ⅳ'. ③ The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of combination CDFI with CDE were 95.24%, 86.67%, 91.67% and 93.94%, 85.00%, 89.04% in the two groups, respectively. They were much higher than by using CDFI or CDE alone. Conclusion The color flow of breast cancer is more richer than that of benign lesion. SPV, PI and RI can become one of the parameters in diagnosing small breast cancer. Combination of CDFI with CDE can improve the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy rate of breast cancer.
