CATETERES VENOSOS CENTRALES CON RESERVORIO SUBCUTANEO EN PACIENTES ONCOLOGICOS

1994
Once between January 1987 and December 1992, 110 venous acces port were implanted for chemotherapy treatment in oncologic patients. They were always admitted (24 hours) for insertion of the catheter. The device was operatively placed through the cephalic vein in 97 cases and through external jugular vein in 11. The implantation was done under-local anesthesia in 107 cases and general anaesthesia in 3. Polyurethane catheters observed were: 6 thrombosis (5,4%), 6 systemic or localized infections (5,4%) and 1 extravasation (0,9%). We remove the catheter in 6 cases: 4 for sepsis, 1 for tissular necrosis after extravasation and 1 for having finished the treatment. In conclusion, the totally implanted venous acces port is a simple and recommended technique for chemotherapy treatment, in selected patients.
