Different early nursing methods for catheter outlet in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis

2013
Objective To explore some effective early nursing methods for the catheter outlet of peritoneal dialysis. Methods 60 patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis were randomly divided into a research group (30 cases) and a control group (30 cases). The catheter outlet of the research group was covered with wound dressing (10 cm × 10 cm,3M) after being disinfected with iodophor and normal saline, while the catheter outlet of the control group was traditionally covered with sterile gauze after being disinfected with iodophor and normal saline. The incidence of abdominal infection, skin itching, and inflamed redness were compared between the 2 groups. Results 26 cases had no sign or symptom of exposure, one case got inflamed redness around the outlet, and 3 cases underwent skin itching in the research group. However, only 8 cases had no sign or symptom of exposure,10 cases got inflamed redness around the outlet,11 cases had skin itching, one case got abdominal infection. There was statistical difference in the efficacy between the 2 groups. Conclusions That the catheter outlet of peritoneal dialysis is covered with wound dressing (10 cm × 10 cm,3M) after being disinfected with iodophor and normal saline is easy to learn and helpful for fasting the catheter, can bring convenience, comfort, and satisfaction to the patients, and is thought highly by the patients.
