Electrochemical behavior of nanostructured TiO2/alginate composite coating on magnesium alloy AZ91D via electrophoretic deposition

2015
Abstract Alginate composite coatings containing titania nanoparticles (n-TiO 2 ) intended for biomedical applications were deposited by electrophoretic deposition (EPD) on AZ91D substrates without previous surface pretreatment. Coating composition was analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. Polarization curves of the coated samples showed a higher corrosion potential and lower current density in comparison to bare AZ91D. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) results revealed that the as-coated sample exhibited corrosion resistance 3 to 7 times higher than that of uncoated AZ91D.
