Laboratory Study on the Permeability and Skid Resistance of Asphalt Pavement Fog Seal Layer

As the fog seal layer using modified emulsified asphalt, its skid resistance may be attenuate while waterproofing property is improved significantly. So, this paper presents a laboratory study on the permeability and skid resistance of asphalt pavement fog seal layer. It is indicated that the texture depth is affected by the fog seal, and the more amount of sprayed asphalt, the smaller texture depth. Texture depth can evaluate skid resistance of asphalt pavement. If the original texture depth is bigger, the reduction amplitude is bigger. With the increase amount of sprayed asphalt, the permeability coefficient decrease significantly. If the permeability coefficient of original pavement is bigger, the reduction amplitude is bigger and the effect of fog seal layer is more obvious. By comprehensively considering the permeability and anti-skid property, the spraying amount of fog seal layer is suggested between 0.2-0.4kg/m².
