A case of metastatic neuroendocrine tumour

2003
Retroperinoneal neoplasms have a broad differential diagnosis, including that of neuroendocrine tumour. The diagnostic use of 111Indium labelled somatostatin analogues in demonstrating the presence of somatostatin receptor subtypes on these tumours has been one of the success stories of the past decade; however it has become evident that although a highly sensitive technique, it lacks specificity, and somatostatin receptors have been shown to be expressed in a wide variety of apparently unrelated tumours.
