Phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation under the topical anaesthesia

Objective To analysis the feasibility of cataract phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation under topical anaesthesia.Methods Phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation were performed under topical anaesthesia in 486 eyes of 398 cases.Results The topical anaesthesia was safe and believable,only 12% of the patients felt a little pain and 4.7% felt some pain.One day and a week after operation,the naked vision and corrected vision ≥ 0.5 were 53.6% and 78.5%. The major complications were corneal edema and rupture of posterior capsule.Conclusion The topical anaesthesia can be safely used for cataract phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation.
