Management andresponse to treatmentof Helicobacter pylon' gastritis

Gastritis associated withHelicobacter pylon waspresent ingastric biopsies from24/95 (25%)children andadolescents undergoing endoscopy forrecurrent abdominal painand uppergastrointestinal symptoms. H pylon associated gastritis occurred mainly inolder children (8-16 years) andwassignificantly associated withlowsocioeconomic class and afamily history ofpeptic ulcer disease. Antral nodularity wasacommonendoscopic finding inH pylonpositive children. Eighteen children,allover5years ofage,weretreated with tripotassium dicitratobismuthate (De-Nol) for twomonths andampicillin fortwoweeks. In 12children follow upgastric biopsies were obtained sixweeksafter completion oftreatment.In9/12(75%)children H pylori was eradicated, andgastritis improved.
