The Halo Apparatus and Static Electricity

1978
To the Editor.— The halo apparatus was first used for immobilization of fractures of the cervical spine in 1959 by Perry and Nickel. 1 We have found it efficacious in the years we have been involved in its use, and we particularly are pleased with patient acceptance. Since static electricity is with us most of the winter season, we would like to pass along a patient report warning that coming as close as a millimeter to the new flip-flash bulb units can set them off by the basketful; "it's almost bionic!"
