Primary Fallopian Tube Carcinoma: Analysis of 46 Cases

2004
Objective: To study the feature of primary fallopian tube carcinoma and to improve the understanding of clinical gynecologists for it. Methods: 46 cases of primary fallopian tube carcinoma were analyzed in clinical and pathological features. Results: Between the year 1980~1998, there were 21 cases of primary fallopian tube carcinoma, and during the year 1999~2002, there were 25 cases. There were more patients with staging early to middle in this time than the former period. Among these 46 cases, there were 42(91.3%) having a misdiagnosis pre-operation. Conclusion: The prevalence of primary fallopian tube carcinoma has been increasing in recent years, with higher rate of misdiagnosis. It is helpful to detect serum Cancer Antigen 125 (CA 125) level and diagnostic laparoscopy for improving the correct diagnosis of primary fallopian tube carcinoma.
