Toxicity assessment of date pit activated carbon nanomaterials in hepatocytes

2019
This main objective of this work is to synthesize and characterize activated carbon (AC) produced from date pits and screening of cytotoxicity assay with carbon nanoparticles on hepatocytes namely (THLE2 and Hep G2). The AC was prepared by physical activation method at 900◦C in a tube furnace. Scanning Electron Microscopy analysis illustrated that the activation has increased the pores intensity. In the biological assays, cytotoxicity test of the THLE2 cells and HepG2 cells showed viability remained closed to 100% when exposed to date pit carbon nanomaterial. Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) was conducted to check the apoptosis severity of nanoparticles on the cells. The results showed that the cells regained its capacity even when the particles were ingested by the cells.
