Analysis of 53 hand-foot-mouth disease patients.

Objective To evaluate the clinical features and prevalence of hand-foot-mouth disease. Methods The clinical data of 53 patients who were referred to our department at their first consultations during Aug. 2006 to Oct. 2008 were retrospectively analyzed. Results The ratio of male to female was 1.8:1. The age range fof patients was 10 months to 31 -year -old.. 83.01% of the patients were under 6 -year -old. 11.32% of them were adults. There were 2 cases with reinfection. 28.3% of the cases had fever. Only 77.36% of the cases developed simultaneously a typical lesions on the hands,feet and mouth. The lesions were distributed mostly on the hands (98.11%),then feet (92.45%) and mouth (81.13%). Buttocks and thighs were predisposed sites for lesions as well. The first lesion always developed on hands (56.60%),or mouth(33.96%),buttock(32.08%)and feet(30.19%). Conclusion Most of the patients with hand-foot- mouth disease are under 6 -year -old,amd most of them were males,it also occurs in adults. Some patients may have reinfection. Only part of the cases have fever. Not all the cases have a typical lesions distributed simultaneously on the hands,feet and mouth. Hips and thighs are the predisposed sites of lesions as well. Hands are the most common sites of the first lesion,sometimes the hips is one of them as well.
