Abstract Studies on the interactions of quartz particles with macrophages have contributed considerably to a better understanding of the mechanisms eventually leading to lung fibrosis. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of a number of test or standard quartz materials on alveolar macrophages from different species. Also the geometry of exposure was varied.
