Application Analysis of Intraoperative Electromyography Monitoring During Acoustic Neuroma Surgery

2011
Objective To study the effect of intraoperative electromyography(EMG) monitoring on protection of the facial nerve during acoustic neuroma surgery. Methods The tumors were removed completely by the way of sub-occipital approaches in 28 patientes with acoustic neuromas and the facial electomyography monitoring was done during operation. Results All of the tumors were totally resected,92.9% facial nerve were anatomically preserved.According to House-Brackmann facial nerve grading system,82.1% of them were gradeⅠ~Ⅱ at 1 month and 6 months postoperation,of which stimulation threshold of the facial nerve at the end of the operation range from 0.1 to 0.5mA and response amplitude of 1.0mV or greater. Conclusion During operation on acoustic neuroma, the intraoperative electromyography monitoring could increase the function preservation rate of the facial nerve.
