Pyrene: The Guest of Honor

2016
This book chapter intends to give students and more experienced chemists an overview of the available techniques for studying host–guest systems in solution. Instead of being centered on a specific host or a family of hosts, this book chapter focuses on pyrene, probably the most common and most studied guest in the literature. All standard techniques for studying host–guest systems in solution, such as NMR, UV-vis, and fluorescence spectroscopy are presented and examples taken from the literature where pyrene is a guest are discussed. Overall, this book chapter confirms that pyrene is the guest of honor for most host–guest systems.
