Application of mesoporous silica as the nanocontainer of corrosion inhibitor

2020
Abstract The novel approach to improve the active corrosion resistance of coatings is to impregnate them with the corrosion inhibitors. This might cause the loss of corrosion inhibitors within a relatively short period of time as well as their undesirable interaction with the coating. To minimize these issues, corrosion inhibitors can be filled into the host particles and embedded in the coating matrix. Recently, nanocontainers have been applied as the host for corrosion inhibitors, among which porous materials including mesoporous silica nanocontainers have received great attention. To control the release of anticorrosion substances, researchers have worked on loading organic or inorganic inhibitors into these materials. The main aim of this chapter is to investigate mesoporous silica as nanocontainers of corrosion inhibitors and the study of corrosion behavior of the systems containing these hosts.
